The awards ceremony of the 21st edition of Metra International Competition, was held on Wednesday 13 March at the Fiera Milano Congress Centre on the opening day of Made Expo, in front of a qualified public and in the presence of numerous company representatives, and a high-level jury.

The edition 2019 saw a great participation, important names from the world of design and works that have distinguished themselves for innovation, eco-sustainability and originality. The competition focuses not only on the product but also on the use of aluminium in the construction of building products in an architectural context of high aesthetic, technological and innovative value.

The new nursery school in Guastalla (RE) wins the prize in the category “Special project profiles – Innovative Technologies”. The project aims at promoting children’s interaction with the surrounding space through an educational vision where everything – from the distribution of the classrooms to the selection of the construction materials and the integration between interiors and exteriors – is planned down to the finest detail. The facility was built using low-impact natural or recycled materials. The loadbearing structure consists of timber frames, which ensure efficient thermal insulation. The high level of insulation and the optimal distribution of transparent surfaces, together with the use of cutting-edge rainwater harvesting systems and a photovoltaic system on the roof, help meet the school’s energy needs minimizing the use of mechanical equipment.

The International Competition “System of Author” is aimed at the knowledge and dissemination of works of high aesthetic value carried out using traditional technologies or advanced technologies and with a new approach attentive to sustainability, energy saving and living comfort.
