Mario Cucinella Architects wins in the Small and medium enterprises category with “WorkShop Ricostruzione

The “five pills of beauty” they have been realized thanks to the over 7 million euros collected by the Trust “Nuova Polis” (Confindustria, Confservizi, CGIL, CISL and UIL), promoters of the “Trust Nuova Polis Onlus” solidarity fund in favor “of the populations, of the workers and of the productive systems hit by the dramatic events” and born after the earthquake that in 2012 jolted the Emilia-Romagna.

“Beauty will save the world”, wrote Dostoevsky. And this is the high ideality that inspired the architect Mario Cucinella and the studio Mario Cucinella Architects (MCA) to design the interventions carried out in the heart of the Emilian siismic crater. The five buildings, the center for sport and culturein Bondeno (Ferrara), the house of music in Pieve di Cento (Bologna), the dance school in Reggiolo (Reggio Emilia), the recreation centerin Quistello (Mantova) and the social and health center in San Felice sul Panaro (Modena), which will be inaugurated at the end of May, have been designed by MC A together with six professionals selected during the WorkShop Ricostruzione. The “five pills of beauty” have in common the respect for the principles of environmental sustainability and the desire to activate a link with the territory.

«Are five pills of beauty that wanted to respond to the needs of the population and at the same time give value to the territory. In the tragedy of these lands and those of Central Italy, hit by seismic events, we owe these communities all our effort creative. The example of the reconstruction of Emilia-Romagna – told Mario Cucinella – shows how the strength of a community has been represented with the architecture of the new schools. Not only as it was, but above all as it will be. We must imagine that from this great suffering we will re-build better, more carefully, without compromise on seismic safety and environmental safety. Quality architecture promotes important values such as beauty, design, ecology, environmental quality, innovation, sustainability and contributes to giving value to the territory by creating a new empathy with the landscape. Beauty is contagious!».

Architect Marco dell’Agli, partner of MC A and coordinator of the WorkShop Ricostruzione projects, received the prize in Brussels together with the secretary of the Trust, lawyer Giuseppe Vischetti, emphasizing how the values of The European Sustainability Award aims to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals in the European Union by giving a human face to the efforts and creativity of European people, businesses and organizations, which are turning the global sustainable development goals into concrete solutions and opportunities, perfectly represent the five pills of beauty.
