Bologna, September 21, 2019 – The eleventh edition of the Dedalo International Award for Commitment to Architecture has come to an end. The award ceremony was held in one of the most symbolic places in the history of Italian architecture, the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, designed by Andrea Palladio.

Architect Marco Dell’Agli, Project Director of Mario Cucinella Architects and in charge of the projects of the Workshop Ricostruzione, together with Dr. Mario Agnoli and Dr. Mauro Redolfini representing the Trust Nuova Polis Onlus, received the ALA Assoarchitetti Prize – Inarcassa Foundation.  The reason for the award received for the “five pills of beauty” realzied thanks to the more than 7 million euros collected by the Trust (Confindustria, Confservizi, CGIL, CISL and UIL), in favour of the populations, workers and production systems affected by the 2012 earthquake, is the following: to Trust Nuova Polis Onlus, commissioner of the Workshop Ricostruzione in Emilia Romagna (Italy), for the extraordinary “beauty pills” as a contribution to life and future for communities affected by the disaster.

Five buildings have been created as a result of the collaboration between MC A, the Trust and the municipal administrations, the result of great collective work and the sacrifices of the Emilian populations: the House of music in Pieve di Cento (Bologna), the Recreation Center “Hub Oltrepò Mantovano” in Quistello (Mantova), the Sport and Culture Centre in Bondeno (Ferrara) the Dance School in Reggiolo (Reggio Emilia) and the “Nuovo Picchio” Social and Health Centre in San Felice sul Panaro (Modena).

«The collaborative synergy not only between the client and the MC A studio, but also between the young professionals of the Workshop Ricostruzione, the citizienry affected by the earthquake and the municipal administrations, has allowed to create these unique works. I like to think that our client was not only the Trust, but the thousands of workers and companies that with their generosity gave birth to the Trust and the hundreds of citizens who will benefit of our works. – commented architect Marco Dell’Agli – The five pills of beauty, as Architect Cucinella defined them, combined the specificity of the landscape and places with innovation and recognition, thanks also to the direct interaction with the communities to which they were destined and to the building technology skills expressed by the local companies that were involved».

Over 300 entries were received from over 40 countries around the world at this 11th edition. A truly varied panorama, from large to small scale, in which the Jury researched the reasons that led to the realization of the candidate projects, analyzing in particular the aspects of social sustainability, public sharing, the application of Design for All, the enhancement and conservation of the landscape and architectural heritage, the use of innovative and recyclable technologies and materials aimed at the conservation of the built and natural environment, the enhancement of local traditions and languages, the multidisciplinary design approach and the integration of art, architecture and design.
