MC A’s project Unipol Group Headquarters win the Active House Awards 2019 for the category Designed Buildings without Radar.

The presentation of all the shortlisted projects and the winners’ announcement took place last week in Toronto during the 7th Active House Symposium.

The jury motivations: a stunning design of an eco-skyscraper in Milano currently under construction. It embodies many interesting solutions for a different approach to towers in dense cities. Further steps in order to apply Active House radar will be proposed to the designer and contractor.

The Unipol Group Headquarters, currently under construction, will be located in a location of exceptional prestige and will be the last fundamental element of the great project of the area of Porta Nuova in Milan. It’s a large-scale urban redevelopment project that in recent years, more than any other in Italy has contributed to renewing and qualifying the image of the city of Milan, equipping it with a modern financial district like that to the most important European capitals. The particular context of the Unipol project, located in the last unbuilt rectangle within the area of Porta Garibaldi, was a design challenge for the Designers and the contractor CMB: the lot imposed stringent logistical constraints that influenced all the choices of construction processes, structured according to the highly complex organizational logic of the large high-rise construction sites in New York.

The new headquarters will be characterized by a fine and functional design, the result of a rigorous project development, through every element of the  building, from the volume to the facade system, from the interior to the public spaces around the structure, contribute to create an efficient machine without giving anything to the pure formalism. The design solutions adopted favour the rediscovery of constant interaction between the users of the Unipol Group headquarters and the surrounding climate, allowing them to actively modify the workspaces to increase the level of comfort.
