Following and bringing to light the network of agricultural landscapes, the design is divided into what have been called “rooms,” or spaces divided into three main thematic categories: events and services, where one of these rooms contains one of the main entrances to the new park, accessed from the new railway underpass; a place that until recently had been a break between the historic city center and the agricultural network “beyond” the railway and which now becomes the starting point of this experience, from which cycle and pedestrian paths connect the Park with the new University Campus and Residential Districts; equipped rooms dedicated to more dynamic activities such as bodyweight fitness, featuring equipped fields, picnic and barbecue areas for families, reading and relaxation areas, and playrooms for children; natural rooms where the focus is on creating biodiverse environments that respect the typical characteristics of the area. Here, we will have rooms used as community gardens, where citizens can get involved firsthand, as well as themed gardens, flower fields, woods, etc.
The green project aims to restore the landscape of the Po Valley that characterized it until the middle of the last century. In the past, the area was strongly influenced by the coexistence of various types of environments, from woodlands to wetlands and waterways. The grid-like morphology of the agricultural landscape blends with the new design, in which a sort of belvedere at the center determines the sense of openness of the large central lawn, enhancing the visual continuity with both the historic city and the surrounding countryside. From the large central green heart, greenery permeates to the north and south, through rows of trees that follow the pedestrian and cycle paths, in the gardens and areas belonging to the services, almost as a sort of extension of nature.
