The Basilicata City of Peace Foundation for Children was created by the Nobel Peace Prize winner Betty Williams and was created to provide an answer to a question of integration and reception of refugee families.
“House for Peace” is among the Foundation’s main projects and the first step in a wider refugee initiative by the human rights activist Sharon Stone and Betty Williams: the aim is to create a safe haven, a model of single integration, where local populations and refugees can live together, where children can find a lost humanity and the strength to rebuild an existence, a future.
The building will be built in Scanzano Ionico on public land and will be donated to the Municipality at the end of the work for the reception of refugees and asylum seekers assisted by the Foundation presided over by Betty Williams.
