New University Campus in Chieti

The project responds to the need to expand spaces for education and work, creating an integrated and contemporary environment in which architecture, landscape and wellbeing come together to shape a new vision of the campus: inclusive, sustainable and open to the future. The complex includes a 500-seat auditorium, offices for approximately 200 people together with dedicated staff facilities, five 300-seat teaching rooms, a fully accessible outdoor amphitheatre, and two car parks, one underground and one above ground, shaded by a large photovoltaic canopy. All functions are connected by a network of shared pathways and green spaces designed to encourage interaction and social life.

The new campus is organised around two buildings arranged around a central circular plaza, engaging with the natural topography of the site and the surrounding landscape. The layout promotes spatial permeability, the penetration of natural light, and a carefully designed approach to the façades that ensures students have clear views of the outdoors without creating glare for teachers, while maintaining a constant relationship between interior and exterior. This approach reflects a regenerative vision of botharchitecture and landscape design.

Supporting these expansive spaces is a timber structure, which also introduces a considered approach to the building’s lifecycle. The construction system is designed according to principles ofdisassembly and reversibility, allowing, when necessary, for elements to beselectively dismantled and subsequently recovered, reused or recycled at theend of their service life. This choice combines architectural quality with abroader, circular vision of the project.
